MISS ELLI HE IS...

“Sashaaa!” bawled Miss Elli over the intercom. Sasha pressed the release button for him to come up and unlocked the door to her flat. Miss Elli aka Mr Elliot Anthony, was a top hairstylist in the ends working at Leyla Asante’s hair salon. 5’11, medium build, smooth midnight skin, set against perfectly shaped features; he was fashion, classic chic and Miss Sasha Satchel’s gay boyfriend.

Miss Elli came flying through the front door meeting Sasha in the kitchen who was preparing coffee. She looked at him and said, “Coffee here or do you want to go to Chapletown…We can go to Miss Brown’s coffee house?”

Out of breathe from running up the three flights of stairs he panted, “Noooo, I can’t see anyone.”

“Why?” asked Sasha teasingly, as Miss Elli always came with some drama.

“Oh my God, where do I start?” He responded, catching his breath and then he blurted it out, “He’s married!”

“Who?” asked Sasha.

“Di love a mi life!” cried Miss Elli.

Sasha still confused and not catching on, asked again, “Who?”

Miss Elli shouted, “Jerome Doe, my man and happiness for the last five months.” While clicking his fingers up and down he said, “Him was di JD inna di drink JD and bowy did him quench my turst.”

Sasha ignoring his comments quizzed, “You’re still with him...And what do you mean he’s married? And how do you know…Who is he married to, do we know him?”

Miss Elli responded saying, “Mr JD is married to a who-man.”

“What?” squealed Sasha.

“Yes darling.” Miss Elli said coolly.

“Oh you’re giving me a headache,” said Sasha touching her head.

Miss Elli went on and said, “And how I found out that Mr Jerome Doe’s is married to a woman is that his wife caught us in her bed in a compromising situation or should I say position.” Miss Elli feeling sorry for himself said, “Oh I’ve been in bliss for the last five months and now I’ve come crashing back to earth darling.” Miss Elli was more Yorkshire than Yorkshire tea.

A neglected Sasha said, “Hmm now I know where you’ve been…On planet JD, you didn’t call me back, email or even text, you made me feel like a fuck and duck gyal.”

“I’m sorry; you know I love you darling.” Miss Elli said affectionately.

Still not satisfied with his kiss and make up talk Sasha said, “No you don’t, you abandoned me.”

He replied, “Oh I’m sorry darling but I was preoccupied.”

Sasha smiling responded saying, “Yeah with Jerome’s big black ting.” They both started

laughing mischievously and hugged.

Sasha poured hot water into the coffee percolator and moved towards the living room, she asked, “Can you bring the sugar…Oh and do you want milk?"

Miss Elli with a straight face looked at Sasha and said, “No darling, I take it black and hot.” They both started laughing again.

In the living room, Miss Elli started pacing the floor with both hands on his hips like he was sashaying up and down the cat walk while debating his situation, he began, “It’s not just a sex thing you know, he told me he was trapped in a marriage that he didn’t want and until he found me, he felt that he could finally be open about his sexuality.”

“Has he got kids?” asked Sasha.

Miss Elli replied, “No thank goodness.”

“So what happened when the wife caught you?” inquired Sasha.

Miss Elli filled Sasha in saying, “Oh she was one mad angry black woman; she went downstairs to get the kitchen knife and came back up trying to kill me, JD had to restrain the bitch.”

Excuse me Miss Elli!” exclaimed Sasha, “What do you expect she just caught her husband in a comprising situation in her bed with A MAN!”

Ashamed, Miss Elli responded, “I know it’s bad and she didn’t even have a clue he was G-A-Y darling.” Sasha shook her head in disbelief.

While sipping on her black coffee Sasha asked“Be honest Ell, did you suspect he was married from the gate?”

“No!” Miss Elli returned, “He told me that he lived with his sister.” Still sussing out her gay boyfriend Sasha probed, “I take it your gunna get back with Mr Jerome Doe and that all is forgiven then.”

A serious Miss Elli replied, “I love him Sash and he wants to be with me you know, have a life and that…But I would have to leave Leeds, in fact I would have to leave England, maybe even earth.”

Sasha not wanting to lose her gay boyfriend, suggested, “Why don’t you just come out, they can’t kill you, you’re a big man.”

Miss Elli began to school Sasha saying, “Do you know what it’s like for a black man around here to come out, huh. I can spot all the gay black men in our community, the professionals, the gangsters, the baby fathers, the husbands and the church man dem and none of them are admitting to that shit any time soon darling.”

“Oh it’s like your blaspheming,” said Sasha.

Propping a hand back on his hip and tilting his head to one side, Miss Elli said, “Exactly darling.”

Sasha trying to comfort and solve her gay boyfriends fears said, “But Ell, I don’t mean to be funny babe but I reckon everyone knows you’re gay anyway…Plus you’ve been spotted loads down Queens Court in town…And in the endyou just have to be with the one who makes you happy, however it may come.”

Miss Elli said solemnly, “It’s not about anyone killing me, it’s about me killing them darling; I can’t cause unhappiness to all my family and friends just to make one person happy.”

Caringly Sasha said, “But that’s not fair on JD.”

Miss Elli replied sadly and said, “I’m that one person, not JD.”
